Story Campaign

The story mode of this game series of games is a linear first-person shooter where the player usually acts as a fighter in the army of any country or organization. As a rule, in one game of the series, there are several protagonists who change during the course of the story. The events of the series games take place in different eras. The action of the chronologically first mission in the games of the series, the beginning of the Soviet campaign of Call of Duty 2 takes place in 1941, the action of the chronologically last game, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – in May 2080. Also, the games of the series take place at different time intervals. The smallest time interval affects the storyline campaign this game: Infinite Warfare – 3 days, the largest -Call of Duty: Black Ops II with an event interval of 39 years. Unlike the classic version of releasing sequels (when a later released game continues or complements the events of previous games or completely restarts the franchise), Call of Duty series games are divided into separate sub-series or independent games whose events are not canonical to each other.

In the games of the series, a wide selection of firearms is presented: both real-life types of weapons (parts whose action takes place in the past or near future), and fantastic. In storyline campaign missions, the player is given 2 types of firearms (in the Black Ops and Infinite Warfare sub-series, before the start of the mission, the player can independently choose his weaponry, as well as modify it), as well as one or two types of grenades. Almost all games in the series have the opportunity to take the weapons of eliminated opponents. In all games in the series, starting with Call of Duty 2, a system of automatic health regeneration is used: to replenish health, a player just needs to move to cover. Also in the games of the series, various “scripted” scenes are common to give the parts of the franchise more cinematic. During these scenes, the player may be given control of a different technique or the control customary to the genre may change.

In addition to the features common to the series, individual games may have their own characteristics.

The story campaign in the games of the series can be both single-player and cooperative. All major games in the series have difficulty levels. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was the first game in the main series, which abandoned the traditional single-player campaign. Instead, there are training missions with plot cut scenes in the game.

Multiplayer mode

In multiplayer mode, the player can choose from several standard game modes for the genre: deathmatch, team deathmatch, various capture options, and so on. The weapon system is completely identical to that in the story campaign: 2 types of weapons (with the possibility of modification and customization in the later games of the series), as well as grenades. In some games in the series, the player can select perks for his character. In later games of the series, a full-fledged character leveling system appeared. Parties to the conflict in multiplayer are usually factions represented in the storyline campaign.

Cooperative Zombie Mode

In addition to the storyline campaign and multiplayer in the games of the Black Ops sub-series, as well as in Advanced Warfare, Infinite Warfare and WWII there is a cooperative zombie mode, designed for 4 people. In this mode, players confront the endless coming waves of zombies. Complexity increases proportionally with each wave: the health and speed of zombies, as well as their number, increase. For the elimination of each zombie, as well as for some other tasks, players are given points that they can spend on the purchase of new weapons. As in other modes, players can have 2 types of weapons, as well as grenades. With a certain probability, bonuses can drop out of zombies, which temporarily give a certain gain. For example, the “Instant Kill” bonus allows you to eliminate any zombie in one hit.

Initially, players open a small area of the map. New areas, like weapons, open up for points.

The cards of the zombie mode of the Black Ops subseries are connected by a common storyline, the action of which takes place in another game universe in relation to the story campaign of this subseries. The corresponding modes in the rest of the games are not plot-related either to each other or to the campaign plot of their games.

The first shareware game in the franchise was Call of Duty Online – a game aimed at the Chinese market, the monetization of which is due to the sale of in-game items. It has been developed since 2010 by the Shanghai division of the publisher Activision Shanghai and Raven Software [7] [16]. Exclusive rights to manage This game Online in China according to the concluded contract belong to Tencent [17]. The game was officially announced on July 3, 2012, the debut trailer shows the gameplay on maps from past games of the Modern Warfare sub-series [18]. The launch of the game was scheduled for mid-2013 [19]. Activision does not exclude the possibility of starting the service in other territories, but at the moment does not disclose its plans [20]. On January 14, 2013, Call of Duty Online entered the beta testing phase [21]. The game arrived in open beta testing in mid-January 2015 [22].

The series also released several mobile games: This game: Strike Team – released on September 5, 2013, supports devices running iOS and Android operating systems, and actively uses micropayments [23]. The game is not related to the events of any of the previous games in the series. The action takes place in 2020. The game consists of two modes: passing the campaign (completing missions) and a survival game [12]. The game was developed by The Blast Furnace studio under the leadership of a former Rockstar London employee [24] (talk about the ambiguity of the future studio appeared in January 2014[25] , and at the end of March 2014 Activision made the final decision and closed The Blast Furnace [26] ). Call of Duty: Heroes – developed by Facerole Games and released on November 26, 2014. Like Strike Team, the game supports devices running iOS and Android operating systems, actively uses micropayments. Unlike other games in the series, the game is not a first-person shooter, but an online real-time strategy where the player has to build up his own base, create troops and train heroes. In view of the special emphasis on the online component, the game does not have a storyline, but the genre isa crossover where you can combine and control armies from the heroes and units of various games in the series (starting with Black Ops 2 ). There are 4 modes in the game: campaign (a set of simple missions without a plot), PvP (online battles with other players), Survival (defending a base from zombies ) and Trials (a mini-game with the ability to earn some bonuses and additional resources in this game ) this game: Mobile – developed by Tencent Games and Timi Studio Group for mobile devices based on Android and iOS operating systems . It was released on December 15, 2018 for players from China and Australia called Call of Duty: Legends of War. The game is a shareware first-person shooter. Most of the weapons, equipment, maps, characters and modes are taken from the Modern Warfare and Black Ops sub-series.
